I chose this topic on social responsibility to bring awareness to what has affected our society as a whole. Gun violence has impacted us in some way with recent or other tragedies.
In this screenshot, I have contributed to donating towards Sandy Hook Elementary School which faced a gun shooting. They have created the Sandy Hook Promise that focuses on teaching those who are young to practice basic threat knowledge as well as being a voice to move and have an impact. Organizations like these make huge impacts on society, focusing on gun violence and those who were affected.
Annotated Bibliography
These resources helped me learn more on the topic of how one is affected after these tragedies. Specifically https://www.jstor.org/stable/1602739 talked about what we are experiencing in todays society which is how the children and parents are affected. I learned from this article that children develop PTSD after such tragedy and develop a sense of defensiveness leading to carrying a gun themselves or practicing self defense. As well as for the parents they are in constant worry of what might happen to their kids from what is uncontrollable.
Beto has also been another credible source as he highlights how the recent tragedy has meant to him and what he has planned to better our current laws on guns.With the Uvalde tragedy, he has taken action to truly highlight who is in the wrong. The abuse of guns causes people to be in fear at the one place they are in majority of the time, school.
If I had participated and time managed better I would have succeeded more throughout this project but as a freshman I was figuring out how to get through my first semester.
I will continue to gain knowledge on this topic by keeping up with the news or organization who are willing to engage on this topic.
